Downloadable File Formats

Below is an example of the available download types:
F31-##C#.EXE (self-extracting file)
F31-current.exe (self-extracting file, same as F31##C#.EXE)
F31X##C#.EXE (self-installing version)
F31Xcurrent.exe (self-installing version, same as F31X##C#.EXE)

In the above examples, ## represents the release number and # represents the revision of that release. The release number doesn't actually reflect the version number. For example, version 4.0 of Command AntiVirus for Windows download filename is F31-00C1.EXE.

Self-extracting files should be used if you wish to make a disk set, or modify the installation options. For default installations which will be done from the same computer the file has been downloaded to, use the self-installing version.

How to Extract the Downloaded File

ONEDISK.BAT batch file used to create a single directory from which to run SETUP.EXE
4DISK.BAT batch file used to create 4 installation disks (1.44Mb)

How to Create an Install Directory

ONEDISK.BAT will extract each of the disk image files to a single directory from which you can run the installation program SETUP.EXE. ONEDISK.BAT requires a parameter value which will be the destination drive and directory where the files will be extracted:

ONEDISK.BAT S:\INSTALL\CA31

The example above will extract the file set to S:\INSTALL\CA31. If the directory does not exist, it will be created.

How to Install Command AntiVirus for Windows

If you downloaded the self-installing version, simply double-clicking the file will launch setup. If you did not download the self-installing version, you will need to run SETUP.EXE. Configuration Options Prior to Installing Command AntiVirus for Windows

Modifications can be easily and efficiently made prior to installation. This is of particular value to administrators wishing to deploy the product already configured to multiple workstations. Locate the SETUP.INI file which will be either in the installation directory, or on DISK 1 of the disk set depending on the method used. The SETUP.INI file can be read and edited using any standard text editor such as Notepad or MS-DOS Edit, etc. Many of the GUI options can be configured prior to installation. Descriptions and available switches for the settings precede each section.

Using File Manager, double-click on SETUP.INI and browse the file to view the current settings; if desired modify the default operations and save the changes. When SETUP.EXE is launched, it will install the program based on the settings contained in the SETUP.INI file.

Customizing the SETUP.INI for Silent Installations

With only a few changes to the SETUP.INI, installations of Command AntiVirus for Windows will be seamless and will not require user intervention or response.

Edit the SETUP.INI file using an editor of your choice and modify the values for the following lines as recommended modifications.

Silent=1
Sets the interaction mode off

FProtInAuto=1
Adds F-PROT in autoexec.bat to run hard drive scan at boot

FPSwitches=/hard /today /disinf
Switches used for F-PROT statement in autoexec.bat

Other changes may be applied; review the SETUP.INI and adjust other items as needed.

Distributing Scan Tasks or Other Files During Installation of Command AntiVirus with F-PROT Professional for Windows

Scan tasks or other files can be easily distributed during installation by adding or updating files contained in the self-extracting PKzipped files in the installation file set. The file that contains the scan tasks for Command AntiVirus for Windows is SE_FPW.EXE. Using standard PKzip syntax, updating the scan tasks in this file can be accomplished like this:

pkzip se_fpw.exe hard.fpw

If you desire to distribute additional files during the installation, each file can be incorporated to any one of the self-extracting PKzipped files as these files are extracted to the installation directory during SETUP.

Distributing a modified F-PROTW.EXE file

  1. To overwrite the installation file requires use of PKzip™ with the correct syntax; the file SE_FPRTW.EXE contains the file F-PROTW.EXE.
  2. Use the following syntax to update the F-PROTW.EXE file inside of SE_FPRTW.EXE:
    PKZIP SE_FPRTW.EXE F-PROTW.EXE
  3. Alternatively, overwriting the F-PROTW.EXE executable in user's installation directory (typically C:\F-PROT) with the newly modified F-PROTW.EXE will accomplish the same task.
