Description:

W97M/Afeto.A@mm is a worm that spreads through Microsoft Outlook. It arrives as an attachment to a message that executes upon being opened. When activated, the worm will check the size of the opened document. If it is less than 200 KB, W97M/Afeto will search the C drive for a .JPG file that is 50 KB or smaller and embed it into the document. The worm then sends this modified message out to the recipients listed in the Sent Items folder of Outlook, taking its subject lines and messages from those previously sent emails. Finally, the worm copies itself to the root directories of the following drives (if available): I:\, H:\, G:\, F:\, E:\, D:\, C:\


Detection:
